Our New Retro-Commissioning Graphic
Posted by Integrated Designs, Inc on
Integrated Designs Inc. has developed this graphic image to convey its service for retro-commissioning (Retro-Cx) existing buildings. Retro-Cx is emerging as one of the key strategies building owners are utilizing to reduce energy consumption and green house gas emissions. At the same time, it optimizes overall building performance to achieve a quality indoor environment while minimizing operating costs.
You cannot manage what you cannot measure. So, the graphic implies a kind of meter to indicate the various levels of performance. The dashboard image indicates high-performance buildings in the green area and low-performance buildings in the red area.
One of the more accepted methods of measurement for overall building energy use is megajoules per metre squared (MJ/m2). Without a lengthy explanation of the measurement, it is generally accepted that a high-performance building would be in the area of 500 MJ/m2, whereas a poor performing building would be in the area of 4000 MJ/m2. This of course would vary depending on the function of the building.
The graphic is not meant to tell the whole storey of the Retro-Cx process or its benefits, but is meant to provide a visual reference for this important service that Integrated Designs Inc. provides for its clients. It can also serve as a starting point to help educate and establish acceptance of a common measurement for benchmarking energy use between similar facilities or the same facility before and after Retro-Cx.
Integrated Designs Inc. will use this graphic in its promotion of energy management and retro-commissioning services.
