Delivering sustainable designs that are efficient, practical, and cost-effective.

Sustainable Design Facilitation

Integrated Designs is more than a name. We use our integrated design process to deliver high-performance, cost-effective building solutions. There is a widely-held misconception that green buildings cost more to build. For more than 14 years we have proved we can tunnel through cost barriers and achieve LEED Gold performance without the additional capital cost. Our simple approach for delivering high-performance projects is based on basic time-tested design principles. By assembling a fully-integrated team of sustainable design professionals, we achieve low building loads and tight simple designs that cost less to build, maintain and operate.

Energy Simulation

Our experienced engineers use computer models to predict building energy consumption. We use these models to give feedback during the entire design process, support LEED certification and calculate energy saving for incentive programs. We have experience in modelling complex buildings including hospitals, educational facilities, pools, ice, rinks and laboratories. We are proficient at, and experienced in the use of EE4 simulation software, as well as e-Quest, HAP, TRACE, IES VE and TRNSYS.

LEED Consulting

We are naturals at facilitating the various LEED programs specializing in design solutions that minimise cost and maximize development, maintenance and operation. We use the LEED process to help building owners deliver sustainable, high-performance projects that are both practical and cost-effective. Our employees are fully-trained in the LEED process, the standards of which are synonymous with advanced building design.

Measurement and Verification

An often overlooked aspect of sustainable building design is actual building performance in terms of quantifiable energy and water use. Integrated Designs has developed a measurement and verification plan to quantify these parameters and confirm that the building is operating as intended, troubleshoot issues and deficiencies and suggest any necessary remedial action. We also provides clients with the tools needed for ongoing monitoring and analysis.

  • Project Highlight: Evident Office Building

    Winnipeg, Manitoba

For the Evident Office Building project our team was able to design a LEED Platinum target office-building project to meet high expectations for sustainability and quality within an acceptable budget.

“The collaboration element of Integrated Project Delivery was fantastic, the design team and the contractors acted as though it was their money they were spending.” - CEO Dennis Birtles

Although the project was put on hold,  Integrated Designs was able to offer their services to lead the process of design and development for a building that is practical and cost effective, while still being a high-performance sustainable facility.

By tunneling through the cost barriers on the fourth building at Innovation Place Research Park, Integrated Designs set a new standard for building performance.  By lowering loads, separating out ventilation and using more passive and efficient radiant heating and cooling systems, the quality of the indoor environment was improved and  the facility uses 45% less energy no additional capital cost. This innovative project became the building design model for the next three building projects that included: the Saskatchewan Forest Center (located in Prince Albert, SK), 121 Research Drive and 2 Research Drive.

  • Project Highlight: Understanding the Barriers to High-Performance Buildings

The journey to success in the Green building industry begins with a strong understanding of the barriers to high-performance buildings. Once we understand the barriers, we can develop new ways of thinking and work toward achieving much higher performance levels.

A strategic paper, written by Amory Lovins and titled “Energy Efficient Buildings: Institutional Barriers and Opportunities”, provides insight as to why there exists such massive market failure in the way we design and construct buildings.
