Pioneering the implementation of IPD
Integrated Designs is pioneering the implementation of Integrated Project Delivery to eliminate the barriers identified in the book Broken Buildings Busted Budgets. Our goal is to achieve a 10% reduction in project delivery costs so that it will become feasible to deliver LEED Platinum projects for very little, if any, additional capital cost. The Art of Commissioning @ NCSC Conference
"The Art of Commissioning" was presented at the National Construction Specifications Canada conference is Saskatoon. Murray’s message was that commissioning is as important to delivering successful projects as wind is to windsurfing and that commissioning provides an excellent return on investment. In his summary, Murray makes the business case for commissioning based on energy cost savings alone. Furthermore, he adds that the more important reason that a comprehensive commissioning program should be an integral part of any project is because of the people cost benefits. Performance Matters @ CaGBC Conference
Performance Matters was the theme for the CaGBC conference that was attended by three IDI staff. Some of the lessons learned confirmed that IDI is on the right track to address the large number of projects that are not performing by developing IDI's commissioning, retro-Cx, and new Measurement and Verification services. Another lesson learned was that the Green Building Industry needs to place a higher priority on proving out high performance designs. Integrated Designs is pleased to announce a Strategic Alliance with Tower Engineering to offer a full package of sustainable consulting services for Integrated Project Delivery Projects.
This vertical integration of BIM + Design Facilitation + LEED + ESIM + Best Practice and Fundamental Cx + M&E Design + Measurement and Verification will enable our team to achieve optimized designs that overcome many of the barriers to high performance buildings. Tower and IDI will share offices in Saskatoon and Calgary.
BIM in next Integrated Designs projects
Building Information Modeling will be used on IDI’s next projects to improve the design coordination, best practice commissioning, and for alternative systems analysis. Murray’s Net Zero Townhouse will be used as the pilot project for implementation of this new service during construction in 2010.
