Sustainable Buildings

We can help you deliver practical cost effective high performance sustainable building projects by taking a lead role in delivering your building projects like we have for NORTEP, Churchill Northern Studies Centre, Meewasin Valley Authority and Canada Post’s Mail Processing Plant in Winnipeg.

La Ronge feasability assessment

NORTEP, La Ronge, SK.

The Northern Teachers Education Program (NORTEP/NORPAC) is located in La Ronge, Saskatchewan and offers university programs through affiliation with both the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina. Integrated Designs will project manage utilizing IPD 8 new, large-family units targeting LEED Gold certification.

IDI will manage the initial feasibility study to develop conceptual design and budget. This will be followed by integrated design facilitation, project management, LEED facilitation, design, construction and commissioning.

Churchill Northern facility

Churchill Northern Studies Centre (CNSC) Churchill, MB.

The CNSC is redeveloping its facility with a commitment towards sustainability and an integrated design approach. The site is at Canada’s former rocket range, where scientific research is carried out with a variety of educational programs. Each year the centre supports over 200 researchers and students working on over 75 different projects in the biological, physical and social sciences. With 90 beds in 2007, the centre supported over 9,000 user nights.

Budget: $15,000,000. Completion: 2009/10

In the conceptual phase of this project, IDI will assist the Owner with determining WHAT is to be built, WHO will build it, and HOW it will be built. In addition to project management and sustainable capacity building, IDI will provide commissioning, LEED facilitation and energy modeling services as the project progresses.

Canada Post Winnipeg Mail Processing Plant

Canada Post Winnipeg Mail Processing Plant, Winnipeg, MB

The Canada Post Winnipeg Mail Processing Plant is a two-storey building with 23,000 sq. m. of mail processing plant space and approximately 4,000 sq. m. (over two-storeys) of retail, office, cafeteria, kitchen, and training space.  This plant will be a model for new plants across the country, and is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

IDI is an important member of the large design-build team.  Early on in the schematic design, IDI advised on issues affecting LEED goals.  As the design and construction progressed, IDI prepared the LEED Certification application, modeled the building for its energy use, and delivered Fundamental and Best Practice Commissioning.

  • One of few industrial facilities targeting LEED Certification
  • Landmark facility for Canada Post
  • Excellent use of native landscaping
  • High water reduction goals
  • Incorporates many energy saving features such as high-efficiency condensing boilers, heat recovery ventilators, efficient T5 plant lighting, and highly insulating roof construction
